Did a Boppy Newborn Lounger Injure Your Child?

In September 2021, The Boppy Company recalled its Boppy Original Newborn Loungers, Boppy Preferred Newborn Loungers and Pottery Barn Kids Boppy Newborn Loungers, which have been linked to eight infant fatalities. This recall comes nearly one year after the Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a warning about the risk of potential suffocation for babies sleeping on infant loungers and nursing pillow products.

Product liability attorney Alan M. Feldman said it is critical for manufacturers of children’s products to ensure that their products are safe by conducting a hazard analysis and designing their products so that the most vulnerable segment of society is protected from needless harm.  He noted that the lounger does not comport with recommendations by the American Academy of Pediatrics that babies be placed to sleep flat on their back alone and free of soft bedding to minimize the risk of accidental suffocation.

“Unfortunately, this is another tragic example of a product manufacturer not living up to its responsibility and then demonstrating reluctance to voluntarily recall its products even after numerous injuries occur,” Feldman said.
